Hardware Infection
Dr. Bruce Ruben at Encompass Healthcare treats hardware infections. Don't wait!
Hardware (Prosthesis) Infection
Hardware infections (or prosthesis infections) can occur in prosthetics in the knee, hip, back, breast, joint, and just about anywhere in the body and we treat them all at Encompass Healthcare and Wound Medicine.
Artificial body parts can become infected and when they do, they can be extremely difficult to eradicate. In many instances, IV antibiotics may be administered to treat the infection. If the hardware infection still persists, it is sometimes necessary to remove the hardware, administer another round of antibiotics, and then replace the hardware with a completely new prosthesis. Still others who may not be candidates for this complicated surgery, may be treated first with IV antibiotics and then long-term oral antibiotics to maintain a good result.
