Wounds

Dr. Bruce Ruben is an expert in healing wounds.

At Encompass Healthcare, we look at the patient as a whole to determine why wounds are not healing.

Many of the non-healing wounds we see include foot, leg, surgical wounds, buttock wounds & more.

• Feet: these are often experienced by diabetics. These wounds are often called diabetic foot ulcers & can occur because of neuropathy that diabetics experience. Since often they cannot feel the bottoms of their feet, small sores can unknowingly develop, become larger and then become non-healing wounds due to infection and other factors.

•Legs: non-healing leg ulcers can be due to a variety of factors, including venous insufficiency, peripheral artery disease, and other reasons.

Surgical wounds: some surgery incisions get infected or become non-healing for other reasons. We cure them  here at Encompass Healthcare.

• Buttock sore: these can be called pressure, sores, or pressure ulcers from sitting too long. These are often experienced by quadriplegics and paraplegics because they don’t have feeling in their buttocks, and they don’t know to intuitively shift weight. We work with many case managers who care for disabled individuals.

• Radiation wounds: wounds due to radiation or something we commonly see here at Encompass Healthcare.

• Others: any wound that hasn’t healed in six weeks is considered “non-healing” and needs to be addressed.
